There are several varieties of greens, lettuce, herbs and root vegetables that can be grown in compact spaces and containers. Many will grow quickly, and some can tolerate less-than-perfect conditions. The softening and enlivening qualities of plants are a benefit to any living space. Add in the benefit of being able to eat what's grown, and you might want to turn a room into a greenhouse. The service rate will be $20 per hour to create a gardening area on a deck, balcony or backstep. This does not including any materials -- which would consist mainly of potting soil, soil amendments, fertilizer and containers. Just as it is with the regular garden construction service, plants and seeds will need to be purchased by the client. Weekly or occasional visits to tend your plants can be arranged. Each visit to a small-scale garden (25 sq. ft or less) will cost $15. Tending a 30-40 sq. ft. garden area will cost $20 per visit. Above 40 sq. ft., the regular cultivation visit rate of $25 per visit will be charged. The Backyard Harvester does not use chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides.
